AREAS OF ACTION
 
1.
Tobacco : One out of the two young people who start and continue to smoke will be killed by tobacco related illness.
2.
Alcohol and substance use : Worldwide 5% of all deaths of young people between the ages 15 and 29 are attributable to alcohol use.
3.
Bullying at schools : It has been documented that victims of bullying suffer from high levels of depressed mood, poor self esteem and anxiety. Rates of suicidal ideation are also high among them. The impact is likely to lead to mental problems later in life.

Stress management : Many schools children are under tremendous stress may be partly due to the burden of the curriculum or due to conflicts in their families. Suicidal tendencies, juvenile delinquency, depression, undue stress during exam periods are the most common problems that are faced.
5.
Fat foods – fat kids : Obesity is not a superficial question of appearance, but it leads to heart disease, hypertension, respiratory ailments, orthopedic problems and diabetes.
 
Television confines children to couch, burns no calories, and bombards children with a constant stream of ads of soft drinks, snack foods.
Lack of proper exercise in schools.
Junk foods.

ACTION STEPS
 
Develop school-site health promotion initiatives that go beyond individual level risk reduction activities.
Improve methods for evaluating the health outcomes and cost effectiveness of work site health promotion.
Address the well being of the administrators, faculty and school support staff.
Integrate health promotion and disease prevention into employee benefit pan and make such effort compatible with the goals of managed care.
Establish a standing committee to assess employee and school needs, identify resources, and evaluate the impact and outcomes of school site health promotion efforts.
Identify exemplary models of school-site. health promotion and encourage schools to replicate them.
Establish integrated databases that monitor health promotion development, implementation and evaluation results.
