the bully to feel superior.
Usually the bully is bigger or stronger
than his/her victim.

- Constant teasing

- Threatening some one into social isolation
- Spreading gossips, lies , rumors

On 7 March 2009, Aman
Kachroo, 19, a first year
student of Dr Rajendra Prasad
Medical College, Kangra, HP,
India,
Repeatedly complained to his
parents about the harsh
ragging that took place on the
Medical College campus —
often by completely drunk
third-year students.
On Friday night and Saturday
morning (March 6th-7th,
2009), the boy was beaten so
badly that he died of brain
hemorrhage
- On 18 September 2007, Durgesh Shukla hanged
himself from a ceiling fan in his hostel room in Pioneer
College, Bhopal. He blamed seniors in his suicide note./li> - On 8 August 2007, Manjot Singh, an MBBS student,
committed suicide by consuming a poisonous
substance. He did so at his residence in Chandigarh,
due to ragging in his hostel at the Government MedicalCollege, Amritsar
- On 11 October 2005, Amit Sahai committed suicide
by jumping before an approaching train in Jalandhar.
He was a student of NIT Jalandhar, Punjab. In his
suicide note he blamed nine senior students of the

Recent statistics shows
- 1 out of 4 kids is bullied
- 8% of students miss school for fear of bullies.
- 4 out of 5 school students admit they act like bullies
- 25 children every year commit suicide because they are being
bullied. - Up to 40% of secondary school students feel their teachers are
unaware of the bullying.

How to tackle bullying?

Advice for Victim
- Avoid the bully and use the buddy

- Act brave and ignore the bully

- Verbal and written Warning
- Punish the bully
- Involve parents for informing them and assistance

Steps to check bullying
- Make a school “Problem Box’ & open it on weekly
basis - Schedule class meetings to discuss & combat
bullying - Give out “Act of Kindness” rewards to students who
show respectful behavior to others. - Discuss the issue during parent-teacher’s meetings
Role of parents
- Take the bullying seriously
- Listen carefully and calmly to your child’s situation
- Let your child know bullying is not her fault
- Build your child’s self-esteem
- Inform the school authorities of the incident
